Purpose of the Role:

The Network Engineer is responsible for the support and ongoing maintenance of our client's network. You will be instrumental in the upkeep of network systems, playing a key role in network transformation projects, and supporting other team members within a complex enterprise environment.

Position Accountabilities:

  • Provide Level 2/3 technical support, troubleshooting, and fault rectification for technical issues related to the network infrastructure.

  • Manage the configuration and operation of various network hardware including switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, and SD-WAN.

  • Monitor, tune, and perform trend analysis of responsible systems to ensure optimal performance.

  • Provide high-quality knowledge sharing within the Technical Infrastructure department, including documentation, training, and mentoring.

  • Participate in the Network Services on-call roster.

  • Follow agreed procedures for Infrastructure Change Management, Escalation, Incident, and Problem Management.

  • Maintain regular and accurate log entries of fault, investigation, and resolution detail.

  • Manage various stakeholder requirements throughout the business to ensure changes and risks are appropriately mitigated and communicated.

  • Ensure incidents are escalated to the appropriate Teams, Management, and/or service providers according to established procedures.

  • Take a proactive approach to solve recurring problems at the source and not rely on temporary fixes.

  • Act on System security events and violations.

  • Contribute to Disaster Recovery testing & documentation, and participate in Business Continuity Plan testing as required.

  • Act as a network technical lead in the delivery of various projects.

  • Engage in vendor management, including reviewing next-generation products.

Decision-Making Authority:

  • Direct Approval: Management of assigned tickets, standard system configurations, maintenance, fixes, and/or changes, and resolution of low to moderate complex and/or low to moderate risk customer and employee issues specifically relating to Network Services.

  • Recommendation to Leader for Approval: All non-standard system configurations, maintenance, fixes, and/or changes; team operating policies and processes; escalation of security, project, or operational risks; resolution of highly complex and/or sensitive customer, supplier, and employee complaints and issues; escalation of customer complaints, conflict, high severity, and time-sensitive operational risks.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

  • 5+ years of relevant network operations & support in a large, complex corporate environment.

  • Strong hands-on problem-solving skills and knowledge with hardware and software across the following product and technologies:

    • Cisco Nexus & ACI (OSPF, BGP, MPLS, VRF, VLAN, QoS)

    • Palo Alto Firewalls

    • Palo IONs

    • Meraki SD-WAN, Wireless, Switching

    • Cloud Networking (AWS Direct Connect, Megaport)

    • Load Balancers & Delivery Controllers (F5 BIG-IP, Citrix NetScaler)

  • Experience monitoring network infrastructure using enterprise tools (e.g., Solarwinds, Netflow, cloud-based performance tools).

  • Experience in network security standards, best practices, and administration.

  • Excellent time management, stakeholder management, and communication skills.

  • Strong delivery outcomes and customer service focus.

  • Exceptional Vendor & Stakeholder management.

  • Industry Certifications – CCNP/CCIE, Meraki Solutions Specialist are essential.

Preferred:

  • Industry recognised technical certifications (e.g., PCNSA/PCNSE, additional CCNP specializations).

  • Knowledge of related technologies such as VMware networking, Windows DNS/DHCP.

  • Experience using agile project management methodologies.

  • Understanding of Infrastructure Architecture principles, practices, and application thereof.
